Report David Robinson. Pic Jez Sayle

An entertaining encounter saw four goals shared at Bower Fold as the local Tameside Derby went ahead 24 hours later than scheduled. With goalkeeper Carnell absent Josh Ollerenshaw made a full league debut for Ashton with Aaron Chalmers moving into midfield.
Celtic were first on the offensive as Tom Brown’s pass put Connor Hughes in and two attempts to cross were both blocked by Lewis Baines. On 11 minutes a lay back saw Brown’s shot hit the cross bar with the rebound being scrambled away. Dom Smalley’s overlapping run then won a corner which Baines headed into the keeper’s arms and Hughes then found space but dragged his effort wide of the left hand post.
Ollerenshaw then dwelt on the ball and was robbed by Jake Charles with the keeper recovering well to deny Hughes with Ross Killock not getting enough contact on the resulting corner. On 25 minutes great play by Jack Dyche put Daniel Mooney clear on goal but he dragged his effort disappointingly wide. Wolfenden then brought a fingertip save out of Ollerenshaw with a shot on the turn from Morton’s cross and 7 minutes before the break Hughes robbed Baines on the right wing and saw his cross converted by Wolfenden.
A minute later and Dyche’s effort amazingly squeezed all the way along the goal line and with 2 minutes of the half remaining John Pritchard reached the by line and Mooney finished his cross first time.

The visitors then started the second period in determined fashion and Dom Smalley’s cross immediately reached captain Lees whose left foot effort hit the base of the post.
Celtic then broke to the other end and Charles kept the ball in play before setting up Wolfenden who slid home his second after a clever turn. Just before the hour Chalmers’ pass put Dyche in and his shot was just touched away by Sykes-Kenworthy with Deane Smalley unable to capitalise. With 20 minutes left the Robins were back level as a ball was cleared to Baines and his chip back into the area found the unmarked Deane Smalley heading home.
The hosts could have regained the lead immediately as Ollerenshaw made a good block after Wolfenden tee’d up Charles with Ashworth heading the following corner straight at the keeper. With time running out Hughes cut inside and saw his shot deflect away off Chalmers and Oli Roberts sent a shot skimming just over.

Team: Carnell, Dom Smalley, Pritchard, Granite, Baines, Chalmers, Lees (Roberts 75), Tomsett, Dean Smalley, Dyche, Mooney (Makhosini 65, Platt 87)). SNU: Olapede, Woodford.
