Match Preview: Whitby Town (H) 2025/26

Match Preview: Whitby Town (H) 2025/26

Jacob Emery9 Oct 2025 - 18:25

League action returns to Hurst Cross on Saturday afternoon as the Robins take on Whitby Town.

Steve Cunningham’s side will be aiming to get back to winning ways having suffered elimination from the Emirates FA Cup and Isuzu FA Trophy in recent outings.

A Word From The Gaffer

Speaking after the 2-1 FA Trophy defeat to Clitheroe FC, Steve Cunningham said: “We find ourselves in really tough circumstances at the minute.

“It’s really disappointing, it was a great opportunity to bounce back but in terms of who we’ve got missing, it was always going to be difficult.”

Previewing this weekends clash against Whitby, Cunningham continued: “We should have Sam Baird, Sean Newton and Jason Gilchrist back, and we’re in the market for the right players too.

“The chairmen have been unbelievable with me this last week, they always give me every opportunity and I want to thank them for that.

“Ultimately we’ve got a bigger picture, we’ve got to keep a calm head, dust off the last couple weeks and really kick on.”

Opposition Watch

Whitby have endured a challenging start to the 2025/26 campaign with injury issues and ultimate results. The North Yorkshire side currently occupy 17th place with 12 points from 11 games.

The Seasiders are only one point and four positions behind the Robins, however, they have played an extra two fixtures.

Last time out, they also fell to a 2-1 defeat against fellow Pitching In Northern Premier League outfit Hebburn Town at the Turnbull Ground.

Last Time We Met

Both sides last faced off against each other in January at Hurst Cross. The Robins completed a league double over the Seasiders with a five star showing courtesy of a Louis White brace and goals from Jason Gilchrist, Sam Baird and James Hardy.
