Last weekend, Steve Cunningham’s side recorded a hard-fought 2-0 victory away at Ilkeston, but were unable to back the result up on Tuesday night as they fell short away to Staffordshire-based Leek Town.
Heading into the home clash, Ashton United have been handed a boost on the backline as a deal to take Charlie Heyes-Green on loan until the end of the season from Halifax Town has been confirmed.
A Word From Newts
Ashton United defender and assistant manager, Sean Newton, said the following post-defeat away to Leek Town: “It’s a tough one to take because I thought we dominated the game.
“I thought we were well in it. We had a couple half chances we just didn’t take and that’s been the frustration over the last six, seven games for us. We’re struggling to find the rhythm and be consistent.”
Looking ahead to Morpeth, he said: “Saturday will be another tough game. It’s one we’re not going to take lightly (despite Morpeth’s early season struggles), we never take any game lightly.
“We’ll be rolling our sleeves up and having a really good go.”
Opposition Watch
The Highwaymen have struggled in the opening stages of the 2025/26 campaign and sit just inside the relegation zone albeit with games in hand.
Last time out they secured a 3-0 victory at Craik Park over fellow relegation placed Stocksbridge Park Steels to register their third consecutive win on home turf.
What They’re Saying
Craig Lynch commented on this weekend’s tie post-victory over Stocksbridge Park Steels: “Ashton have had a tough couple of results, but their manager is brilliant and the team is really good, so we know it’s going to be another hard day.”
Last Time We Met
Both sides last faced off against each other in the run up to Christmas last year. The Robins recorded a resounding 4-1 win away from home courtesy of a Jason Gilchrist brace and strikes from James Hardy and Nathan Lowe.
