Late Equaliser rescues Robins - again!

Match Report | Ashton United 1-1 Hyde United

By Dave Robinson

For the second year running a late leveller rescued a point for the home side after the visitors had shown the way for the most of the preceding 90 minutes.

Will Tomlinson was restored into Ashton's midfield but it was the Tigers off to the brighter start as a return ball from Harry Ditchfield forced Luke Burke to concede a far post corner which ended with Jordan Scanlon's shot blocked at the opposite post.

It was Tomlinson's pass inside the full back which sent Alex Byrne to the by line from where his cross was just too high for Mikey O'Neill and a deep free kick then saw Sean Newton's header just palmed away from O'Neill's path by Yusuf Nersin.

Just past the midway point Burke was robbed allowing Lewis Rawsthorne a clear run on goal with Jordan Eastham effecting a fine block and Matthew Fearnley's low effort then forced Eastham to go full length to concede a corner.

Another right wing move then ended with Scanlon firing just past the far post and the closest Ashton came approaching the interval was when Louis White fired Darius Osei's layoff straight at Mersin.

Six minutes after the break Shakeel Jones- Griffiths collected a loose ball in midfield and played in Kershaw who cleared the bar from 10 yards out and Ashton's best move of the match then saw Burke's pullback fired against the crossbar by Louis White from 20 yards out.

Five minutes later White aimed just too high again from a clearance before Ditchfield's long throw won a corner which saw Kershaw's delivery headed over by the unmarked Will Hall.

With 14 minutes left Rawsthorne put a free header from a corner straight at the grateful Eastham and with a deadlock looking increasingly likely a ball from the back in the final minute set Kershaw free in the area from where he lobbed over the stranded Eastham.

Three minutes were then added by Mr Williams and we were already into the 4th extra minute when James Hardy's return ball was headed home at the far post by left back Charlie Hayes-Green.
