2 second half goals from visiting winger Kevin Hayes saw play off chasing Stockton turn around a half time deficit at a rainy Hurst Cross in the process reversing the scoreline from the first fixture in the North East.
Within the first ten minutes visiting right back Ryan Barrett unfortunately had to be carried off with a serious looking injury and he was joined on the sidelines just before the hour mark by home captain Luke Burke.
The home side had made the better start as James Hardy's shot was kicked away by Lewis King after the same defender had cleared Alex Byrne's cross set up by Hardy's pass.
The opening goal arrived on 15 minutes as a goalkick led to Byrne's pinpoint cross being glanced home by the head of Enoch Lusiama and shortly afterwards Adam Nicholson's header from Jake Petitjean's corner tricked past United's near post.
Lusiama was back in the action as he dragged an effort wide after a quick break between Hardy and Byrne and a deflected effort by Hayes was saved after an Ashton corner had been cleared.
A rash of bookings punctuated the restart but 9 minutes into the second period and with the home captain Luke Burke down injured a ball into the area saw Cameron Painter's chest down fired home first time by Hayes and midway through the half the Robins could have regained the lead as Dylan Cogill's pass saw Hardy's shot deflect against the left hand post.
Two minutes later a breakaway from a home corner saw Joshua Scott fierce effort force a near post save and Hardy's cross was then cleared by a defender with Darius Osei lurking.
With 8 minutes left the winning goal arrived as a ball into the box saw Hayes go down under pressure from Byrne before he picked himself up to secure the points from the spot as torrential rain started to fall.
