Cultured midfielder come striker Chris Baguley has today left the club to join Ramsbottom United. Baguley has featured 31 times for the club this season, making him the second most familiar face on Phillo and Acker’s team sheet this campaign, just behind Ash Young who has played 32 times.
However, the former FC United of Manchester and Salford City midfielder has come off the bench 12 times and left the pitch early 12 times this season and it is understood that the player wanted to have full playing time during every single game.
‘Baggers’ joined Ashton in 2012 and became a regular by the end of his first season. Knee surgery meant he missed much of the 2013-14 season however, after a short loan spell at New Mills, he was soon back amongst the goals, looking fit and back to his best and was part of the side last season that just missed out on promotion to the Conference North.
Baguley played twelve times last season after December and scored five goals with two assists and one man of the match award during the 2-0 away win at Frickley Athletic back on the 25th January 2014.
This season the 27 year-old has scored four times, picked up another two assists and a man of the match award during the 2-2 draw against Belper Town back on the 16th August 2014.
His now former team-mate and good friend, Martin Pilkington, spoke of his shock after Baguley’s departure and wished him all the best in future on behalf of the club; "I think Baggers departure is a bit of a shock for me because his technical ability was there for all to see."
Adding; "I suppose he wants to play 90 minutes week in week out and feels a move is right for him so on behalf of the club we wish him all the best."
